Chapter 14

Logging herself off the chat line, Clarissa made a fresh tea and decided to check her phone, needing to know whether it was another bad text or a good one. The moment she saw the message, she knew it was from Tobi.

I hope you’re having a great day, gorgeous. Don’t worry about cooking dinner. I’m cooking for you and the boys tonight. PS: I’ve been a very bad man today!!! Love you, xxx.

There was no mistaking Tobi’s message for anyone else’s. Just reading Tobi’s message had her grinning from ear to ear.

Thank you, you sexy, hot nerd. I hope you are ready to confess and accept your punishment, you bad man!

Clarissa was still grinning as she clicked send and saved his number. She wasn’t sure how he had got her number. With everything that had happened the day before, she had completely forgotten to exchange numbers with him. Then Clarissa remembered Tobi talking with her friends, and she knew one of them must have given her number to him. She was glad that her friends had been thinking clearly.

Grabbing her fresh cup of tea, she got back to work, feeling even happier than before.

As Clarissa was driving home after picking up Luke and Matthew in the new Mercedes Tobi’s brother had lent her, she was beginning to feel like a new woman. A new job, a new man, and true happiness, which was something she wasn’t used to feeling. Luke and Matthew were very excited when she told them Tobi was coming over and cooking them dinner, and as she listened to their banter in the back of the car, she smiled.

After getting vegetable snacks for the kids, Clarissa sat down at her kitchen table to help Luke and Matthew with their homework when her camera app sounded. When she checked the app, she was stunned to see her ex-asshole, Nigel walking up her garden path. ‘What the hell does he want now?’ Clarissa didn’t know whether to tell her boys that their dad had turned up or not. The last thing she wanted was for him to ignore them on the doorstep. She decided not to tell them unless Nigel asked to see them.

“I’ll be right back, boys, okay? I just want to pop the rubbish outside before I forget,” she told them. “I’ll only be a few minutes.”

Luke nodded.

“Okay, mummy,” Matthew told her, not looking up from his school project about insects.

Clarissa quickly went to her kitchen bin, pulling out the rubbish bag and knotting it as she promptly headed to the front door, closing her lounge door to minimize any noise. She took a quick big breath to prepare herself for whatever it was Nigel wanted and quickly opened the front door before he could press the doorbell.

Nigel had just raised his hand to ring the doorbell when Clarissa was suddenly facing him on her doorstep with her rubbish bag in hand. She glared at him.

“What are you doing here, Nigel,” she demanded, trying to keep her cool.
